I was going to try and capture some dusk photos of the city when I stumbled upon this rose that was wedged into the concrete blocks on the North Shore of the Allegheny across from Point State Park with a note saying "Michael loved this place. May he rest in peace"

I really like the juxtaposition of this image. On the one side, buildings that are about a century old. Front and Center is the 616 foot tall Highmark building (completed in 1988) with its 124 foot tall pyramid roof and blue spire. Penn Ave running into the distance and on the right side, a completely new construction (or complete renovation).

Orchard Hill Church in Wexford PA hosts a biweekly Friday night ballroom dance that is really a blast. Tonight was no exception.

Tonights image comes from a few nights ago when I went downtown. There was a ballgame going on while it was snowing. Baseball. Snow. These things do not go together.

Another shot of the "You are Loved.." message from a much different angle.

I went down to the North Shore where someone had stenciled with chalk paint "You are loved more than you know" on a pylon. I don't know how long it will stay there since it's chalk, but I hope anyone who needs to be reminded of this sees it. It is this kind of thing that really makes me proud to live here.

Last Thursday while photographing the Fort Pitt bridge I wanted to get a close up of the superstructure of the bridge. I am constantly fascinated by large structures like this, all the engineering and math that was used to build the 1,207 foot long bridge complete with 8000 tons of steel. I wonder how many rivets were used. Someone has to know.

Tonight we went to Pittsburgh Ballrooms monthly dance. This month it was held at the Lauri Ann West community center in Fox Chapel. Frank and Victoria did the lesson (WCS) and did the demonstration performance which was really fantastic. I really enjoy how they move with such control and musicality.

A few nights ago I had the opportunity to take more night shots around downtown Pittsburgh. I've been meaning to try and get a few decent photos of the Fort Pitt bridge. It's a difficult one to shoot since I don't feel like there isn't any decent locations up the river on either side, but the locations downriver make the bridge look askew. Then I noticed the walkway a few months ago. I had some success getting images from the south side of the bridge, but the city was not ideal, so I tried the north side of the bridge. I think it worked much better. I really like the structure of the bridge and the relatively non-distracting background of Mt. Washington. Also, that apartment building doesn't hurt anything either :-)

Last night I was over at Mariposa Ballroom for the Friday Night Dance. We had a really fun time. Cathy always does a great job. If you have ever wanted to get into ballroom dancing I recommend it HIGHLY. It's both so much fun, so challenging and just a blast. The people in our community are absolutely the best: friendly, helpful and just kind in every way.

While I was up at St. John's Lutheran Cemetary a few days ago, i noticed an obelisk that appeared to have been stuck by lighting and the track to ground was burnt into the rock. I think this is very, very cool.

There is a cemetery north of the city on top of a hill overlooking (mostly) downtown. I went up there a few weeks ago and got a really cool panorama at dusk. See the main view. Photograph it if you wish. Enjoy it. Then look around - most people get too distracted by the main view to enjoy  other, less noticed views. This was one of them.

On Saturday, quite early in the morning and after a snow that wasn't really expected for April, I decided to head down to the Duquesne Incline and try to get some decent photos of the city and snow. It turns out it was quite windy and entirely and deeply overcast. Still, I think this photo turned out pretty well.

Due to the perspective, this image works as a 8x10 or 16x20
